Trip to Italy.......The Vatican and Pompeii

A full day was reserved for the Vatican Museum and St. Peter's Basilica. We arrived early and had no problem with long lines. Our clothing for the day was a required modest covering for both male and female. Throughout our Italian vacation we were concerned over our dress because we were led to believe modesty was always required for the churches. St. Peter's basilica was the only church that enforced this code.

The typical tourist crick in the neck.

No flash, no movies, picking okay

Sign on the way to the Sistine Chapel
Clark read this sign to mean: no flash photography, no movies, but picking your nose was okay.

Rub, rub, rub

Sara and St. Peter

Sara decided to get into this line a few times to rub the right foot of St. Peter. Over the centuries the toes are worn to nothing from pilgrims hoping for good fortune from this saint.

What excess!

To the left here we see Bernini's Baroque Alter Canopy under the dome of St. Peter's Basilica. (only the pope can take mass here). This huge alter soaring 95 feet, was created from the bronze of the Pantheon. (click here)

Trying to be our own self guide at Pompeii

Brian's favorite part of the trip was our day trip to Pompeii.

This concludes our exposon our trip to Italy. We truly loved the whole experience, the sights, the customs and the Italian people. We also love our new camera which brings us to the painful realization that we took over 1000 pictures on the 2 week holiday.
